Edge Cases

What an Edge Case species is, how it appears and what it does not do.

reviewed 8 August 2026

What it is

An Edge Case is a species alone in its own family: it sits outside the Chain, does not advance along it and does not drift — and it is the only esva that ruptures. It counts as a species of its own in the Register and is contained in the field like any other esva. Each incursion brings its own.

How I do it

How to identify, contain and register an Edge Case:

  1. Check the listEdge Case species are marked as such in the Register. Check there before planning the field run.in gameRegister
  2. Identify the apparitionEach Edge Case appears only in the quadrants of its own incursion. The quadrant reserves 5% of the apparition chance for the Edge Cases of that incursion, drawn uniformly among them. In the field, read the apparition in the quadrant and check the species: the Edge Case mark shows on the esva sheet.in gameIncursion Map → quadrant
  3. ContainContain it with the flask, as in any containment. Containing an Edge Case takes no separate handling.
  4. Register itOnce contained, the esva enters the collection and the species is marked in the Register, with an entry of its own.in gameCollection

What I get — and what it costs

What I get
Edge Case in the collectionAn Edge Case species, contained and marked in the Register with an entry of its own.Only by containing the apparition in the field.
What it costs
Outside the ChainAn Edge Case does not advance along the Chain. What you contain is what you keep.Only the Edge Case rupturesThe Rupture Reagent takes only on an Edge Case. The ruptured form belongs to it alone; no other esva takes it.It shares the space of the final formAn Edge Case carries the same stat budget as the final form of a whole line — 560 — without the line behind it. It does not turn into another species and does not come from one: it is a trophy hunt, and that is why it is rare.
