Sound

The four channels, the game's mute and the alert you lose by muting the browser tab.

reviewed 8 August 2026

What it is

Sound has four separate channels, each with its own setting, and the game's mute on the Shift+M key. The deviation alert sits outside the four: no channel setting cuts it, because it is a function, not decoration.

How I do it

How to set the sound:

  1. Open sound in the system menuThe four channels sit in the system menu, on the same screen as the other settings.in gameSystem menu → Sound
  2. Set the four channelsThere are four separate channels, each with its own control. Moving one does not move the others.
  3. Use Shift+M for the game's muteThe Shift+M key cuts the game's sound at once and gives it back the same way. It is the mute the game knows about.
  4. Let the deviation alert throughThe deviation alert is not cut by any channel setting. It exists so you know a deviation happened without watching the screen.
  5. Do not mute the browser tabMuting the browser tab instead of using the game's mute cuts everything coming out of it — the deviation alert included. The game keeps running; it is the alert that does not arrive.
In development

What is missing: the labels of the four channels and whether the Shift+M mute also reaches the deviation alert.

What already holds: there are four separate channels, the game's mute is the Shift+M key, and no channel setting cuts the deviation alert.

What I get — and what it costs

What I get
Deviation alertAn audible signal that reports a deviation without requiring you to watch the screen. It costs keeping sound coming out of the tab: the browser's mute silences the alert along with everything else, and the game has no way to warn by sound whoever turned it on.
What it costs
Channel settings do not reach the alertLowering or zeroing a channel does not silence the deviation alert: it is not one of the four. The tab mute belongs to the browserThe tab mute is not a game setting. The game neither sees it nor undoes it; whoever turns it on goes without the alert until turning it off.
