The hotbar
Why keys 1 to 4 are not assigned, what goes into 5 to 8 and what the move key does in route mode.
reviewed 8 August 2026
What it is
The hotbar has 8 slots, in two blocks. 1 to 4 are the active esva's 4 moves: they are derived, you do not assign them, and they change on their own when you swap esva. 5 to 8 are items, and those you assign.
How I do it
Before you startAn active esva With no active esva, the first four slots have no move to show.required
How the two blocks work:
- Recognise 1 to 4 as derivedKeys 1 to 4 are not assigned by you. They are the active esva's 4 moves, in the order the esva carries them.in gameQuadrant → Combat
- Assign 5 to 8Keys 5 to 8 take consumables of your choice: potion, revive and the other usable items. The assignment is saved.
- Swap esva and look againWhen you swap the active esva, the first four slots start showing the new esva's moves. The last four stay as you left them.in gameParty → esva
- In route mode, use 1 to 4 to bring a move forwardWith the route running, pressing 1 to 4 brings forward a move the esva would have used on its own. It does not replace auto-combat and does not switch it off.
In development
What is missing: the screen path for assigning keys 5 to 8 and whether they take any consumable.
What already holds: the fixed split: 8 slots, 1 to 4 derived from the active esva and 5 to 8 assigned by you.
What I get — and what it costs
What I get
An 8-slot hotbarFour moves derived from the active esva and four items assigned by you, on the same bar.It costs the fixed half: the four move slots take no assignment from you and change whenever the active esva changes.
What it costs
1 to 4 cannot be remappedThe four move slots follow the active esva. Only 5 to 8 accept your assignment.Bringing a move forward is not taking over the fightIn route mode the move key brings forward what the esva would already do. It does not trade auto-combat for manual control.
